Feildians solidified their hold on first place in the Johnson Insurance Challenge Cup provincial men’s soccer league with a 2-0 win over Paradise SC at the Dianne Whalen Complex Wednesday night.

With the result, Feildians (12-4-1) move six points up on the Holy Cross Crusaders (10-4-1) and the St. Lawrence Laurentians (9-4-4). However, defending champion Holy Cross does have two games in hands on the two other teams.

All three clubs, along with the C.B.S. That Pro Like Strikers (9-4-2), have earned berths in the playoffs on the Labour Day weekend although the final order of the standings has been far from decided.

Devon Ryan and Emmanuel Dolo scored the goals for the Double Blues Wednesday, while Braeden Sheppard posted the shutout.

At 4 p.m. Saturday, longtime arch-rivals Holy Cross and St. Lawrence tangle at King George V Park in St. John’s in one of two games on the day. In the other, Paradise and the Strikers will match up at the Topsail Sports Complex (7 p.m.).
