Mile One Centre in St. John’s will be a busy place next week, with a pair of concerts and potentially three basketball and three hockey games all within a nine-day time frame starting Sunday night.

The St. John’s Edge are in the best-of-seven National Basketball League of Canada final against the Moncton Magic. The Magic have home court advantage, meaning if the series goes the distance, Moncton will get four home games.

The Newfoundland Growlers are in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal against the Florida Everblades, who have home ice advantage.

The Edge are currently in New Brunswick for Games 1 (played Wednesday night) and 2 (Saturday night), but return home for Game 3 of the series next Monday. Game 4 isn’t until Thursday the 16th because there’s a Tanya Tucker concert set for Tuesday the 14th and the Growlers are back from Florida for Game 3 of their series Wednesday the 15th.

Because of building scheduling conflicts, the NBL Canada final has been reverted to a 2-2-1-1-1 format, instead of the usual 2-3-2 format.

The Growlers play Game 4 Friday the 17th and Game 5, if needed, Saturday the 18th, with the Edge back at home for Game 6, if required, on Monday, May 20.

The league has to have things wrapped up by May 24 because Moncton’s Avenir Centre is not available after May 23.

Mile One gets its busy schedule started this Sunday night with a concert by Old Dominion, a country band from Nashville.
