Dave Power, who toiled for Bob Badcock’s St. John’s Capitals who won four straight Herder Memorial Trophy championships from 1973-76, passed away this week following a lengthy illness. He was 66.
A former MVP and top scorer with the Gonzaga Vikings high school hockey team, Power won both the 1969 St. John’s junior and senior hockey championships with St. Bon’s. He played with the Newfoundland entry in the 1971 Canada Winter Games, and the St. John’s Junior Capitals, where he was the team’s assistant captain and top scorer in 1970.
Power also played four years for the Memorial University Beothucks before enjoying solid senior hockey career with the Capitals and Labatt Blue Caps.
Funeral service will be held from St. Pius X Church starting 1:15 p.m. Friday.
