Defending PGA Championship winner Brooks “It’s just golf” Koepka met with the media on Tuesday and there is no sign that the season’s second major has him feeling any pressure.
The three-time major champion was asked how long it took him to get over coming in second place to Tiger Woods at the Masters in April.
“It’s just golf, I mean, there’s nothing to rebound from,” Koepka said. “You know, I take it — yeah, second place, it’s not fun, but at the same time, you’ve just got to move on. It’s in the past. I couldn’t care less what happened last week or a couple of years ago. It’s all about this week.”
The conversation steered toward Woods’ comeback win at Augusta National and whether seeing the golf legend back winning a major has Koepka fearing the 15-time major champion. Koepka, who spends his free time on a workout bench wasn’t ready to entertain the premise of the question.
“I mean, what’s the point in fearing anybody?” he said. “We’re not fighting. I mean, unless I was standing there and not prepared for a punch. Other than that, he’s not going to knock my teeth in. He’s not going to hurt me. So what’s there to be afraid of?”
As for any rivalry with Woods, Koepka just doesn’t see it, saying that sports such as football have decades to create a storyline and that he and Woods have only played against one another for a few years.
“There’s a little bit of an age difference there. He’s a little bit older. But I don’t see it as a rivalry. I mean, it’s just golf.”
