Peter Hynes, a 15-year-old member of the Placentia Lions Special Olympics team, has been named to the 2019 Special Olympics Canada national team which will travel to Abu Dhabi for the World Games March 14-21.

The appointment came after a stellar performance at the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games that were held in August in Antigonish, N.S.

Hynes is relatively new to Special Olympics as the Placentia team was only formed in 2015. He attended his first provincial Games in 2017, and was selected to the provincial team for 2018.

Rosie Ryan from Kippens will also be heading to Abu Shabi, accompanying the team as an assistant coach for athletics.
