Jordan Pomeroy of Placentia is preparing for the 12th world junior men’s softball championship running July 7-15 in Prince Albert, Sask.

The national junior team, under head coach Jeff Ellsworth of P.E.I., is currently in Saskatoon playing a series of exhibition games. Starting July 5, Canada will play two exhibition games against Japan in Shellbrook, Sask.

Thirteen countries are scheduled to participate in the nine-day event. Canada is ranked second behind New Zealand.

Pomeroy is one of the province’s finest young softballers. He starred for Newfoundland and Labrador at the Canada Summer Games last summer in Winnipeg, and was voted an all-star second baseman at the 2016 national U18 championship.
