Defending provincial men’s curling Tankard champ Greg Smith won two games Wednesday to improve to 3-1 and lead the 12-team field after two days of play at the Bally Haly Country Club.
Smith won his third game Wednesday night with an 8-6 decision over Matthew Smith, on the strength of a steal of two in an extra end. Greg Smith forced an 11th end with a stolen point in the 10th.
Andrew Symonds and Trent Skanes are both 2-0 with wins Wednesday night. Symonds beat Colin Thomas 9-0 in four ends, thanks to a steal of five in the second, and Skanes downed Ken Peddigrew 9-6. In the other game Wednesday evening, Rick Rowsell beat Bernard Bird 7-5.
In Wednesday’s afternoon draw, Greg Smith trounced Nick Lane 10-2, Bird thumped Justin Lockyer 11-0 in six ends, Matthew Smith outscored Rod Feltham 12-7 and Rowsell slipped past Dave Thomas 7-6.
The winner represents the provincial at the Tim Hortons Brier March 2-10 in Brandon, Man.
