The Memorial Sea-Hawks women’s soccer team picked a good time to find its scoring touch, breaking out with four goals in a 4-0 upset win over Dalhousie Tigers in their Atlantic University Sport quarter-final game Thursday in Sydney, N.S.
The Sea-Hawks managed only six goals in 12 regular-season games this season.
AUS first-team all-star Sydney Walsh turned aside six shots for the shutout.
Memorial, the sixth seed, now faces top seed Cape Breton University in today’s semifinal set for 2:30 p.m. NL time. The final is set for Sunday.
The Capers were 10-1-1 in the regular season. The Sea-Hawks were 4-4-4.
Teri Murphy scored the only goal in the first half Thursday. Nicole Torraville scored back-to-back goals in the second half to effectively seal the win for MUN. Lauren Taylor added an insurance marker.
The Tigers entered the game as the third-seeded team.
