Silver, bronze medals for ball hockey teams

Newfoundland teams won silver and bronze medals at the national masters men’s and senior A men’s ball hockey championships Saturday in Saint John, N.B.

Newfoundland Colonial Masters Selects dropped a 4-3 decision in overtime to the Halton, Ont. Leafs in the masters men’s final. Peter Cabral had a big game for the Selects with a pair of goals. Terry Ryan had a goal and two assists.

The Selects went 3-2 in the tournament.

In the men’s A championship, Newfoundland Black Horse got two goals from Danick Martel and one each from Mike Dyke and Connor Donaghey to beat New Tecumseth, Ont. Xtreme 4-1 in the bronze medal game.

Black Horse lost their semifinal game Friday night, 6-3 to Edmonton after allowing five second-period goals.

Newfoundland was 4-0 entering the semifinals.
