Carl English had a game-high 28 points as the St. John’s bounced back from a disappointing effort the previous night to down the Windsor Express 111-100 Wednesday in National Basketball League of Canada play at Mile One Centre.
The Express (11-13) had prevailed 118-102 Tuesday night, but St. John’s (16-9) came up with a much stronger defensive performance in the rematch. The Edge also got a solid performance from their bench, which put up 35 points, compared to 25 for their Windsor counterparts, 20 of which came from Omar Strong alone.
Grandy Glaze had 17 points for the winners, with Charles Hinkle adding 14 and seven rebounds. Alex Johnson, who had a half-dozen assists, and Tyler Haws each had 10 points for St. John’s, while Ransford Brempong had a game-high nine rebounds.
Haws and Brempong were part of that improved bench production for St. John’s, which led 52-47 at the half.
English, who also had five assists, was the Edge player of the game.
Chad Frazier led the Express with 25 points.
The win gave St. John’s a split of a four-game homestand. Next week, the team leaves for Ontario and a four-game road trip that begins Feb. 15 against the defending champion London Lightning.
The Edge lead the league in wins with 16, but the Lightning (15-8) have a better winning percentage.
