Jeff Dunlap’s team only had games for the first half of December, but the St. John’s Edge’s performance in that period was enough to help Dunlap earn National Basketball League of Canada coach of the month honours for the last month of the year.

Dunlap led the Edge, who have an 8-4 overall record, to a 5-2 record in December including victories in all four of the franchise’s first home games at Mile One Centre.

“When you look at the way the Edge kicked off their inaugural campaign, you can't help but be impressed with what Coach Dunlap has done with this squad as a rookie head coach in NBL Canada,” said NBL Canada deputy commissioner Audley Stephenson.

“Guiding a brand new club to the best record in the league is truly a remarkable accomplishment and one of the many reasons this honour is well deserved.”

Despite not having played since mid-December, the Edge still are tied with the Island Storm for most victories overall and continue to lead the 10-team league in winning percentage.

St. John’s resumes its schedule with home games next Tuesday and Wednesday against the Windsor Express and finishes a four-game homestand Jan. 12-13 against the KW (Kitchener-Waterloo) Titans.
