In years past, when you spoke about Rings and the Royal St. John’s Regatta, the first thought was of the Ring family of Quidi Vidi and the countless rowers  — including many Regatta Hall of Famers — in that lineage. But this year, there are other sets of rings that will grab attention pondside.

Shown are examples of the one-of-a-kind rings  presented to the winners of the men’s and women’s championship races in 200th anniversary Royal St. John’s Regatta Wednesday at Quidi Vidi Lake.

The rings, whose design was unveiled by Her Royal Highness Princess Anne during the Princess Royal’s visit to St. John’s two years ago, are made from gold donated by Anaconda Mining and coming from that company’s Point Rousse Project located on the Baie Verte Peninsula.

The design of rings, which were created by Julie and Terry George of The Golden Tulip in St. John’s, features the shield from the Regatta’s 200th Anniversary celebration logo.
