Two high school golf titles for Michael Simms of St. John's; wins individual crown, helps Gonzaga to team championship

Michael Simms won the boys title and helped Gonzaga to the team crown at the 2018 high school golf championship held Friday at the Admiral's Green Course at Pippy Park in St. John’s.
Thirty-three players representing six schools took part in the event, which featured an 18-hole, stroke play format.
Simms won his individual title with a five-over-par 75, finishing three strokes better than Gavin Connors of Holy Trinity High in Torbay. Nathan Young of Gonzaga (84) claimed third. Rachel Day of Marystown High won the girls title with a 107, while Katherine Dibbon of Waterford Valley was second.
In the team competition. Gonzaga (Simms, Nathan Young, Murry Byrne, Jeff King) posted a combined total score of 252 for a seven-stroke stroke win over Holy Trinity. Holy Heart of Mary was third with a 276 total.
