U16/U18 rugby teams 2-1 at Eastern Canadians

Both of Newfoundland and Labrador’s under-16 and under-18 teams are 2-1 after three days of play at the 2019 Eastern Canadian U16/U18 rugby championships in Kingston, Ont.

Wednesday evening, the U16s came up with a 21-15 win over the Niagara Region from Ontario, after suffering an 85-0 loss to Ontario Central Tuesday. On opening-day Monday, the U16 ream beat the U15 Ontario West squad 24-21.

In U18 play, Newfoundland defeated Nova Scotia 38-7 Wednesday. The Ontario U18 boys beat Newfoundland 41-7 following a 28-17 Newfoundland win over the U17 Ontario West team Monday.

The tournament consists of 30 teams from six different provinces in U16 and U18 boys’ and girls’ divisions.

Newfoundland does not have any female teams in Kingston.
