The Memorial Sea-Hawks women’s soccer team finally solved their scoring woes with five goals against UPEI Saturday, but the offensive outburst didn’t last long with a scoreless tie against Acadia Sunday.
Still, though, the Sea-Hawks managed to keep pace in the tight Atlantic University Sport women’s soccer standings with a win and a tie over the weekend in Charlottetown and Wolfville, N.S.
The Memorial men weren’t quite so lucky, playing to a scoreless tie against PEI Saturday before dropping a 2-1 decision to Acadia Sunday.
The Lady Birds improved to 5-1-4, and remain in a second-place tie with the Dalhousie Tigers with 19 points apiece. Cape Breton University Capers are running away from the pack at 10-0.

The Sea-Hawks entered the weekend series having been shut out in four straight games. That all changed in a 5-0 win over the Panthers on the UPEI campus Saturday, with leading scorer Jessie Noseworthy setting the pace with two goals.
They were her 44th and 45th career AUS goals, passing former MUN star Laura Breen as the top scorer in Sea-Hawks’ history.
Jane Pope, Holly O’Neill and Maria Mackey also scored. Sydney Walsh made five saves for the shutout.
In Sunday’s scoreless draw with Acadia, Walsh stopped all nine shots driven her way.
Memorial wraps up its regular season next weekend at home, with two games against 5-5 Moncton at King George V Park.
In a later game in Wolfville Sunday, Jordi Slaney gave the visiting Sea-Hawks a 1-0 lead on the Axemen, but Acadia would score the next two goals.
In P.E.I. Saturday, Braeden Sheppard made four saves during the scoreless tie with the Panthers.
Memorial is 4-5-1 on the year, and tied with P.E.I for the sixth and final playoff spot.
The Sea-Hawks close out the regular season next weekend at King George V Park against 4-6 Moncton. P.E.I has 5-3-2 Acadia and 4-4-2 Dalhousie as its final two regular season opponents.
BASKETBALL
The Sea-Hawks’ women’s basketball team managed one win during a trio of exhibition games at Laval University in Quebec City over the weekend.
That came against the Brock University Badgers Friday night, an 82-60 decision. Sydney Stewart, who will no doubt be the Sea-Hawks’ go-to player this season, led the way with 18 points. Rosie Stanoev and Haille Nickerson each had 11 and Sammi Deakin scored 10. Brooklyn Wright scored eight points, and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
Saturday, the Sea-Hawks lost to AUS conference rival UPEI Panthers 75-54 and Sunday dropped a 72-63 decision to the host Laval Rouge et Or 72-63. Stewart had 21 points in that one.
Memorial’s men’s squad is now 0-6 in the pre-season following three losses in Edmonton.
The Sea-Hawks dropped a 77-72 game to MacEwan University last Thursday, with Corner Brook’s Nathan Barker scoring 17 points. Friday, Memorial lost 73-52 to the University of Alberta before losing 103-90 to the University of Lethbridge Saturday.
