On the heels of a 1-4 showing by Newfoundland and Labrador’s boys’ basketball team at the under-17 Canadian championship last week in Kamloops, B.C., the province’s boys’ baseball team was 0-6 at the Canada Cup 17-and-under nationals which finished up Sunday in Moncton, N.B.

Newfoundland and Labrador dropped a 5-2 decision to P.E.I., the team’s second straight loss to their smaller island neighbours, in the nine-10 placement game Sunday.

Newfoundland opened the tournament with a 12-2, five-inning loss to Nova Scotia and followed up with 12-3 (Alberta), 13-12 (New Brunswick), 11-2 (P.E.I.) and 12-2 (Manitoba) losses.
