Ben MacDougall leads Morell Chevies to KCBL victory

MORELL, P.E.I. — Ben MacDougall threw a two-hit gem and the Morell Chevies scored the only run they would need in the bottom of the first inning as they defeated The Alley Stratford Athletics 3-0 Sunday in Morell.

The Chevies now lead the best-of-seven Kings County Baseball League final 2-0. Game 3 is Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Stratford.

MacDougall, who graduated from Three Oaks Senior High School earlier this year, gave up singles to Grant Grady in the first and seventh innings. He walked one, hit one and sat down 13 in a row from the second inning to the seventh. MacDougall struck out seven during the game that last about an hour and a half.

Jacob Smith had a two-out walk in the second inning and Jed Noonan was hit by a pitch with two outs in the seventh.

MacDougall got Allister Smith to line out to a leaping Scott Harper, who was battling the sun in right field, to end the game.

Tyler Taylor was the tough-luck loser after throwing a good game for the visitors. He allowed all three runs on four hits while striking out five.

Taylor Larkin hit a leadoff single in the bottom of the first inning for the Chevies, stole second and scored on a passed ball.

He reached on an error with one out in the third. Harper singled and Logan Gallant drove in Larkin with a single. Stephen O’Shea hit a sacrifice fly to cash Harper to complete the scoring.
