Campbell leads Red Wings past Metros into first place in IJHL

ABRAM-VILLAGE, P.E.I. — The Western Red Wings are back in first place in the Island Junior Hockey League.

Bradley Campbell’s three-point performance – one goal and two assists – led the Red Wings to a 6-4 victory over the visiting Sherwood-Parkdale Metros on Sunday night. 

The win improved the Red Wings’ record to 4-1-0 (won-lost-overtime losses) while the Metros fell to 3-3-1. Western now has eight points and moved one point ahead of the Metros. The teams will close out a home-and-home series at the Cody Banks Arena in Charlottetown on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

At the Evangeline Recreation Centre, Chase Gaudette scored twice while Isaac Knox (1-1), Alex Morrissey and affiliated player Max Chisholm added single markers. Mike McRae (2), Kieran Rennie, Kennedy Gallant, Silas Handrahan and Thomas Rennie chipped in with assists.

Barrington Duffy had two goals and an assist to lead the Metros. Josh Dow (1-1) and Emmett Lyons also scored while Cale Pierce (2), Hunter Bradley (2) and Grant MacAdam set up the scoring plays.

The Red Wings built period leads of 3-1 and 5-2.

Winning goaltender Cole Gallant stopped 23 of 27 shots. Matt Jelly had a busier night in goal for the Metros, turning aside 43 of the 49 shots directed his way.

The Red Wings received four minor penalties and one 10-minute misconduct. The Metros picked up three minors.
