Central IcePak dominate Newfoundland championship to bring home AAA female gold

The peewee AAA Central IcePak continued a winning season capturing gold at the provincial AAA female championship March 6-8 in Corner Brook.

The team, which is made up of players from across central Newfoundland, was dominant the entire tournament with a perfect 4-0 in the round robin and playoff rounds. In those games, the IcePak scored 23 goals and surrendered only two. Games were played at the Corner Brook Civic Centre.

The IcePak started the weekend with a 4-0 victory over the host Western Warriors. They followed up with a pair of wins over the Tri Pen Ice (7-0) and the Eastern IceBreakers (3-1)

In the final, the team again defeated their counterparts from Western. The score for the gold medal was 9-1

The championship marks the fourth time the IcePak has brought home gold from one of the five tournaments that make up the provincial league.

This season the team finished with a record of 18 wins, two losses and one tie.

A number of awards were handed out during the weekend and Central came away with two of them.

Madison Fudge was named the tournament’s hardest worker, while Maya Kelloway was named most improved.
