The Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Knights used a four-goal third period to capture the Island Cup.

The Knights recently defeated the Mount Academy Saints under-18 squad 6-4 in the final of the four-team event that also included the Saints under-17 team and the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild.

The final was scoreless after the first period while the Mount took a 3-2 lead to the third.

Laurin Liniger made it 4-2 three minutes into the final frame, but Knights captain Max Chisholm scored at 4:33 and 14:11 to tie it, and Jude Campbell scored the winner with 2:39 left. Chisholm completed the hat trick with an empty net goal with 38 seconds left.

Cole McKeigan and Jesse Blanchard also scored in the win. Jonah Jelley had two assists while singles went to Luke Coughlin, Isaac Vos, Nolan Stewart, Colby Huggan, Cam MacLean and Kal White.

Jacob Pelletier, Keefe Marshall and Felix Beauchemin rounded out the scoring for the Saints with assists going to Marc-Antoine Houde, Isaac Tremblay, Louis-Frederic Theberge and Liniger.

Charlottetown’s Jack Howatt and Loic St. Denis-Lacombe for the Saints each had 37 saves. The Knights were 1-for-6 on the power play while the Saints went 0-for-2.

Charlottetown took a couple of days off after the victory before returning to the rink for practice on Wednesday. The Knights, who swept the Island championship with the Wild, are hopeful of playing a series with the New Brunswick champs after the Atlantic bubble opens. The provinces have set April 19 as the target date to allow travel within Atlantic Canada without the requirement to self-isolate.
