Charlottetown doubles Cape Breton 6-3 in QMJHL play

SYDNEY, N.S. — Brett Budgell had two goals and two assists Saturday to pace the Charlottetown Islanders to a 6-3 victory over the Cape Breton Eagles Saturday in Sydney, N.S.

Thomas Casey had two goals and an assist as the Isles won their sixth straight to improve to 21-4-0-0. Cape Breton fell to 11-15-1-0.

Ben Boyd and Patrick LeBlanc also scored in the victory for the visitors. Cédric Desruisseaux had two assists while Brendan McCarthy, Will Trudeau, Bailey Peach, Pat Guay, Sean Stewart and Lukas Cormier each chipped in one.

Liam Kidney, Dawson Stairs and Nathan Larose replied for the home side. Émile Hegarty-Aubin, Larose and Stairs had assists.

Colten Ellis made 11 saves for the victory while William Grimard stopped 30 shots in the loss.

Charlottetown, which held 3-1 and 4-3 period leads, went 2-for-5 on the power play while Cape Breton was 1-for-3 with the man advantage.

The Islanders won’t play for the next two weeks with the circuit breaker measures in place as of Sunday.
