CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Lukas Cormier had the winner Friday as the Charlottetown Islanders played their first overtime game of the season.
They defeated the Halifax Mooseheads 4-3 in come-from-behind fashion during Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) play at the Eastlink Centre.
Halifax built a 2-0 lead seven minutes into the second period, but Charlottetown sniper Cédric Desruisseaux tallied on the power play six minutes later and captain Brett Budgell tied it three minutes into the final frame of regulation.
Former Isles forward Liam Peyton restored the visitors lead two minutes later, but his former linemate Thomas Casey tied it again on a breakaway with 11:15 to play.
James Swan and Bobby Orr also scored for Halifax while assists went to Zack Jones, Attillio Biasca, Markus Vidicek, Jordan Dumais, Elliot Desnoyers and Orr.
Casey and Desruisseaux each added two assists for three-point nights while Noah Laaouan, Budgell, Cormier and goalie Jacob Goobie each added one. Cormier and Goobie each drew helpers on Casey’s equalizer and a pair of milestones occurred on the play. It was his Cormier’s 100th career QMJHL point and Goobie’s first career point.
Goobie made 25 saves for the win while Alexis Gravel stopped 29 shots in the loss.
Halifax was 1-for-3 on the power play while Charlottetown was 1-for-6. The Islanders improved to 19-4-0-0 while the Mooseheads are 8-12-3-3.
Charlottetown plays host to the Cape Breton Eagles (10-12-0-0) Saturday at 7 p.m. The Isles have won four straight games since losing 5-4 to the Eagles Feb. 6 in Sydney, N.S.
