CORNWALL, P.E.I. — Jordan Spence will finish his junior hockey career in western Quebec.
The Moncton Wildcats traded the Cornwall defenceman to the Val-d’Or Foreurs on Thursday as the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Jan. 25 trade deadline approaches. Spence just finished up his tour with Team Canada at the world junior tournament in Edmonton. He had a goal in two games and finished plus-1.
“Jordan is a pro in everything he does,” said Ritchie Thibeau, Moncton’s director of hockey operations. “I want to thank him for his commitment and leadership during his time with the Wildcats.”
Spence, who turns 20 on Feb. 24, has played 2 ½ seasons with the Wildcats after going undrafted as a 16-year-old before starring with the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals.
The Los Angeles Kings prospect led the Wildcats in scoring with 16 points, including five goals, in 13 games. He is the Quebec league’s reigning defenceman of the year.
In return, Moncton is receiving 16-year-old goaltender Vincent Filion, a fourth-round pick in 2022 and a first-round pick in 2023. Filion was drafted sixth overall in 2020 by the Foreurs.
