SYDNEY, N.S. — Former Cape Breton Eagles goaltender Francois Brassard has decided not to play during the 2020-21 season.
“It was not an easy decision (to) make, but I will be taking the 2020-21 season off,” read his post on Twitter. “I still plan on playing in 2021-22. Stay safe everyone!”
The 26-year-old Gatineau, Que., native played last season with the Maine Mariners of the ECHL. In 14 games, he posted a 6-6-1-0 record along with a 2.76 goals-against-average and a .908 save percentage.
Brassard was without a team to play for after the Mariners decided to opt-out of the 2020-21 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Brassard played 24 games with the Eagles during the 2014-15 season and had a 6-13-3-0 record with a 3.83 goals-against-average and a .867 save percentage.
He’s currently the only goaltender in team history to score a goal. He recorded the empty-net goal on Dec. 13, 2014, against his former team, the Quebec Remparts.
