SYDNEY, N.S. — A former Cape Breton Eagles draft pick has signed with Spartak Moskva of the KHL for the 2020-21 season.

Nikita Pivtsakin, a first-round draft pick by Cape Breton at the 2009 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft, signed with the Russian team last week.

The 29-year-old split time with Avangard Omsk and Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the KHL last season, recording two goals and eight points in 38 games.

Pivtsakin never reported to Cape Breton and was never drafted by an NHL team.
