SYDNEY, N.S. — A former Cape Breton Eagle forward is one step closer to his dream of playing in the National Hockey League.
The Ottawa Senators announced Friday a three-year entry-level contract for 2020 second-round draft pick Egor Sokolov, who finished his Quebec Major Junior Hockey League career last March.
The 20-year-old Russian appeared in 184 regular season games with the Eagles, posting 97 goals and 191 points. He had 46 goals and 92 points in 52 games last season.
Sokolov, who was passed the 2018 and 20190 also represented Russia at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, winning a silver medal with the team.
