PEISAA intermediate soccer finals set for Cornwall on Saturday

CORNWALL, P.E.I. — The matchups for the P.E.I. School Athletic Association (PEISAA) intermediate soccer medal games are now set.

The provincial semifinal games were played across the province, at both the AA and A levels, on Tuesday. 

The Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall will host the bronze- and gold-medal games on Friday and Saturday.

Intermediate AA

In intermediate AA, Stonepark will go for double gold after sweeping the visiting Summerside Intermediate School in the semifinals. Stonepark teams pulled out identical 1-0 victories.

The Stonepark girls will take on Birchwood in an all-Charlottetown final on Saturday at noon. 

Birchwood shut out host East Wiltshire 2-0 in the other semifinal.

Summerside Intermediate and East Wiltshire will meet in the bronze-medal game on Saturday at 9 a.m.

The Tigers will be opposed by the Hernewood Huskies in the boys’ final on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Hernewood punched its ticket to the final with a 3-0 decision over visiting Birchwood.

Intermediate A

The intermediate A championship banners will be taking up residence in Prince County.

The girls’ final, which will be played Saturday at 9:30 a.m., will feature Kensington taking on Hernewood Team One.

In the semifinals, Hernewood blanked visiting Souris 5-0 while Kensington capitalized on home-field advantage to post a 2-0 victory over Gulf Shore.

Gulf Shore and Souris will play for third place on Friday at 3 p.m.

The boys’ gold-medal game on Saturday at 2 p.m., between Athena and Kensington, will feature a rematch of the West Division’s final that determined the seeding for the provincial semifinals. Athena won that exciting contest 3-2 in penalty kicks.

Athena advanced with a 2-0 home-field win over Souris in one semifinal while Kensington registered a 1-0 road win over Grace Christian.

Souris and Grace Christian will play for the bronze medal on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 23

  • 3 p.m. – Girls’ bronze: Gulf Shore vs. Souris.
  • 3:30 p.m. – Boys’ bronze: Souris vs. Grace Christian.

Saturday, Oct. 23

  • 9:30 a.m. – Girls’ gold: Kensington vs. Hernewood One.
  • 2 p.m. – Boys’ gold: Kensington vs. Athena.

AA Division

Saturday, Oct. 24

  • 9 a.m. – Girls’ bronze: Summerside Intermediate vs. East Wiltshire.
  • 11:30 a.m. – Boys’ bronze: Summerside Intermediate vs. Birchwood.
  • Noon – Girls’ gold: Birchwood vs. Stonepark.
  • 2:30 p.m. – Boys’ gold: Hernewood vs. Stonepark.
