Port Rexton high school girls softball team claims provincial silver medals

STEPHENVILLE, N.L. — The Bishop White female softball team from Port Rexton came away with a silver medal at the recent School Sports NL (SSNL) provincials in Stephenville.
On Oct. 18-19, the team from Port Rexton travelled to the west coast for the 2A Girls Varsity slo-pitch provincial tournament.
After the round robin, the Bishop White Barons ranked third among the five teams at the provincials, with a record of two wins and two losses. They beat E.A. Butler All-Grade of Cartyville 21-15 and Dorset Collegiate of Pilley’s Island 12-3, and lost to J.M. Olds Collegiate of Twillingate 9-2 and Baltimore School of Ferryland 10-5.
The Barons went on to beat Baltimore 20-6 in the semi-final game, advancing them to play J.M. Olds in the finals.
The Port Rexton team ultimately placed second after falling to J.M. Olds in the gold medal game.
Aryn Marsh received the most valuable player medal and Jennifer Hiscock received the most sportsmanship medal.
