SYDNEY, N.S. —

The commissioner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced Monday that the League is pausing its season from Dec. 1, 2020, to Jan. 3, 2021.

The decision was communicated to league members and general managers during a meeting held on Monday.

“The current situation with the pandemic in the regions in which we operate makes it extremely difficult to play games,” league commissioner Gilles Courteau said in a release. “With the holidays just around the corner, the provinces in the Maritimes have restricted access and travel while in Quebec, red zone restrictions do not permit us to play.”

Among the suspended QMJHL activities are nine scheduled Cape Breton Eagles games, including three home games: Dec. 11 versus Charlottetown, Dec. 13 versus Saint John, and Dec. 16 versus Halifax.

Eagles' holders are advised to keep their tickets and they will be honoured when the games are made up at a future date to be determined. Fans are encouraged to check capebretoneagles.com and Cape Breton Eagles' social media for further scheduling updates and all news regarding the team.

Courteau will hold a press conference on Tuesday at 11 am ADT.
