CARBONEAR, N.L. — Members of the Poseidon Swim Club in Carbonear will be part of a provincewide initiative over the weekend to raise money for cancer patients in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Swim for Hope is being held today, Feb. 14 starting at 6 p.m. Last year swimmers from Poseidon raised $4,223.25 to support the Dr. H Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation, a charity that supports cancer centres across the province.
Swimmers start completing laps this evening and continue overnight for 12 hours total. The event has raised over $2 million since it first started, and the funds raised in 2019 more than doubled the initial goal of $20,000.
