DARTMOUTH, N.S. — Team Brent MacDougall opened the provincial championship with a loss on Monday.

MacDougall, originally from Sydney, was defeated 8-4 by Team Steve Thompson at the Dartmouth Curling Club.

The MacDougall rink opened the scoring in the first, but Thompson responded with three in the second and two in the third, before scoring two in the fifth and one in the ninth.

MacDougall added a single in the fourth and late added two in the sixth, but it wasn’t enough.

In other action, Jamie Murphy downed Alan O’Leary 9-4, Chad Stevens edged Matthew Manuel 7-6, and Andrew Gibson knocked off Kendal Thompson 7-6.

Action continues on Tuesday with all eight teams playing twice.

At 9 a.m., MacDougall will play Kendal Thompson, Stevens will face O’Leary, Steve Thompson plays Gibson and Murphy challenges Manuel.

At 7 p.m., MacDougall will take on Stevens, while Kendal Thompson battles Manuel, Murphy plays Gibson, and Steve Thompson meets O’Leary.
