Tignish sweep Southside in junior C hockey league action

Sherwood, Georgetown also earn weekend victories

CRAPAUD, P.E.I. — Tristan Cahill scored the winner with 6:35 left Saturday as the Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces scored a come-from-behind 4-3 win to take both end of a weekend home and home with the Southside MacDonald’s Excavation/EF MacPhee Lynx.

Here’s a recap of the weekend action in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League.

Aces 4 Lynx 3

The second-place Aces scored three unanswered goals in the third period en route to victory at the Southshore Actiplex in Crapaud. The Lynx held 2-0 and 3-1 period leads.

James Doyle, Nathan Grigg and Steven Johnson also scored in the win. Alex Arthur, Brayden Handrahan, Oliver Smallman and Cahill each added an assist.

Tyson Beckingham had a goal and an assist to lead the Lynx while Caelan Campbell and Joe Hansen rounded out the scoring. Nick Havenga had two assists while Justin Larsen and Carson Yeo each had one.

Colin Gaudette made 48 saves for the win while Zachery DesRoches stopped 46 shots in the loss.

Southside was 2-for-3 on the power play while Tignish was 1-for-4.

The Aces improved to 15-6-0 while the Lynx are 2-18-0.

Aces 9 Lynx 5

The Aces jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first period Friday en route to a 9-5 victory at the Credit Union Arena in Tignish.

Cahill led the home side with two goals and three assists while Handrahan had a goal and four helpers. Dawson Sellick had three goals and an assist while Grigg, Jesse Hackett and Devon Sherren also found the back of the net.

Ethan Rix and Smallman each had two assists while Kane Arsenault, Doyle, Lucas Gallant, Jacob Hogan, Sherren and Johnson each had one.

Beckingham had two goals and two assists for the Lynx while Caleb Boswall, Campbell and Larsen also scored. Riley Payne had two assists while Spencer Blacquiere, Evan Nelson, Nathan Paynter and Logan VanHul each added one.

Cole Gallant stopped 18 shots for the win. Coulton Coles allowed seven goals on 20 shots in 31 minutes in the loss while DesRoches stopped eight of 10 shots in relief.

Tignish, which took an 8-3 lead to the third, Tignish went 2-for-9 on the power play and killed all 14 of Southside’s chances with the man advantage.

Metros 4 Flames 2

Remi Arsenault scored twice Saturday as the Sherwood Metros doubled the North River Flames 4-2 at the APM Centre in Cornwall.

Bret Cheverie and Jake Lafferty each had a goal and an assist in the victory. Kyle Connell, Patrick Kenny, Ryan McCabe and Dylan Mugridge each had an assist.

Ethan Handregan and Patrick Wyand replied with goals for the Flames while assists went to Daniel Godfrey (2), Chad Harris and Aaron McCloskey.

Zach Hughes made 31 saves for the win while Jean-Luc Duguay stopped 33 shots in the loss.

North River led 1-0 after the first period and the game was tied 2-2 heading to the third. The Metros improved to 6-16-1 while the Flames are 11-7-1.

IceDogs 7 Metros 5

Michael Jenkins had a six-point night as the league-leading Georgetown Tri County Insulfoam IceDogs defeated the Metros 7-5 at the Three Rivers Sportsplex in Georgetown.

Cam White had three goals, Jenkins a pair and singles were credited to Sammy Docherty and Hayden Somers as Georgetown improved to 18-3-0. Jenkins set up four goals while Ty Peardon had three assists and singles were credited to Noah Brehaut, MacKenzie Good, Jason Gormley, Jack Triantafillou and White.

Mugridge and Matt Power scored twice for the Metros while Kenny added one. Owen Matheson had two assists while Remi Arsenault, Nick Brown, Matt Dun and Cheverie each chipped in one.

Summer Pippy-Docherty made 39 saves for the win while Devon Newberry stopped 33 shots in the loss.

Sherwood led 2-1 after the first period but went to the third trailing 5-3.
