The Town of Twillingate is throwing its hat in the ring for the 2020 Kraft Hockeyville competition.

The first nomination for Twillingate came from town recreation director Jeff Blackler just after nominations opened on Jan. 1 and they have continued to grow ever since.

As of Jan. 23, Twillingate has 1,267 entries pushing for the town to be crowned Hockeyville.

On Jan. 16, the town held a rally in the parking lot of the George Hawkins Arena that brought residents and plenty of minor hockey players together in a show of support for the initiative.

A $250,000 prize and the opportunity to host an NHL pre-season game will go to the winning entry.

The money would be used to help upgrade the facilities at the George Hawkins Arena.
