U15 boys and girls to play for gold at Atlantic Youth Soccer Championships

Newfoundland boys’ and girls’ under-15 teams will both play Nova Scotia for gold medals today at the Atlantic Youth Soccer Championships.On Monday in Halifax, the province’s U15 girls finished off preliminary-round play with a 1-0 win over New Brunswick, with Katie Joyce scoring the goal and Sydney Walsh posting the shutout.In Moncton, N.B., the U15 boys lost 1-0 to Prince Edward Island Monday, but still advance to today’s final against Nova Scotia.

Newfoundland’s U16 teams will play for bronze medals today.

In Moncton, the provincial boys U16 side finished off the round robin on Monday by edging P.E.I. 4-3, with Riley Lingard, Brandon Howlett, Paul Holley and Daniel Godden-Brown scoring the goals.

At Halifax, Newfoundland’s U16 girls were blanked 1-0 by Prince Edward Island on Monday.
