ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - After helping her nation win a world title, Newfoundland’s Shailynn Snow will soon be representing her province in another hockey competition.
The 17-year-old forward from Clarke’s Beach was part of Canada’s gold-medal winning entry at the world under-18 women’s hockey championship, which concluded over the weekend in Japan. Now, it’s back to Ridley College, a prep school in St. Catharines, Ont., where she is finishing her last year of high school and is captain of the women’s hockey team.
But late next month, Snow is off to Red Deer, Alta., to play for Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2019 Canada Winter Games.
It will be second Canada Games competition for Snow, who will attend St. Lawrence University on a full athletic scholarship this fall. She also played in the 2015 Winter Games in Prince George, B.C., where she was an N.L. teammate of Maggie Connors, who played Canada's world U18 team last year and is now a star Princeton University.
