The St. John’s Edge will have to do without leading scorer Carl English as they finish up a three-game road trip tonight in St. Catharines, Ont.
English was given a one-game suspension by the National Basketball League of Canada after picking up two technical fouls in St. John’s 96-91 win over the KW Titans Wednesday night in Kitchener, Ont. That brought English up to six technicals for the season which leads to an automatic one-game suspension from the league.
English finished as the leading scorer for the Edge on Wednesday — with 23 points — despite seeing just 21 minutes of floor time. The two in-game technicals led to his disqualification— also automatic — from the contest four minutes into the second half.
Earlier in the game, Edge power forward Grandy Glaze and Doug Plumb were ejected for coming off the bench during a fracas that started when English and the Titans’ Ed Horton got tangled up and fell into fans courtside after the continuation of a KW offensive play. That led to a convergence of players in the proximity of the St. John’s bench.
Glaze and Plumb were both fined by the league, but neither was suspended.
