The Mount Pearl Blades, CBR Renegades and Southern Shore Breakers were the top three teams in the 2017-18 St. John’s Junior Hockey League, so it shouldn’t be any surprise to find the names of players from those teams all through the list of league award-winners announced Thursday night.
Liam Hynes of the Breakers picked up three trophies as the regular-season MVP, most dedicated and committed player and for leading the league in scoring.
The Blades, who lost only two regular-season games, finished in first place and followed up with a playoff run that saw them go 11-1, downing CBR in the final and taking the Presidents Cup. As a result, Mount Pearl will represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2018 Don Johnson Cup Atlantic junior B championship, beginning next week in Membertou (Cape Breton), N.S.
