St. John's senior baseball final will come down to final game of the season

Gonzaga, defending champion Shamrocks meet in a deciding Game 5 Saturday

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The 2020 St. John’s Molson Senior Baseball League championship will be decided Saturday afternoon at St. Pat’s Ball Park with the result of a fifth and deciding game between OMT Shamrocks and RMM Gonzaga Vikings.

The Vikings scored two runs each in the second and third innings Wednesday evening, before exploding for eight in the fourth inning to beat the Shamrocks 13-3 at St. Pat’s.

The result evened the best-of-five championship series 2-2. Game 5 is 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon at St. Pat’s.

Shamrocks are seeking their fifth straight title.

Ryan Sweeney, Matt Parsons and Andrew Paul all had three hits for the winners. Sweeney had three RBI, Parsons scored a pair of runs, and Paul had two stolen bases.

Starter Dan Connors (4.0IP, 3H, 3R, 1ER, 6BB, 4K) pitched the win, with relief help from David Lahey (2.0IP, 1H, 0R, 0ER, 0BB, 1K).

Graham King (3.0IP, 7H, 9R, 7ER, 4BB, 3K, 1HBP) started for Shammies and was tagged with the loss. Also pitching for Shamrocks were Ben Murphy (1.0IP, 4H, 3R, 1ER, 0BB, 0K) and Josh Langmead (1.2IP, 3H, 1R, 2ER, 0BB, 1K).
