The league-leading Kelly’s Pub Molson Bulldogs will be out to put halt to a mini midseason losing streak, while the NTV Hitmen will look to retake sole possession of second place as two games are played in the Molson St. John's Senior Men's Fastpitch League tonight at Lions Park.
The Hitmen (7-4) play the Chayee Bourras Wines Vines (2-10) at 6 p.m., followed by an 8 p.m. matchup between the Bulldogs (10-2) and The Bigs (3-9)
The Bulldogs had won their first 10 games of the season, but were thumped 12-0 by the Hitmen a week ago and blanked again, this time by the Chayee Bourras Wines Vines, who prevailed 2-0 Tuesday night at Lions Park.
Tuesday’s other game was a shutout result, as the defending champion 3 Cheers Pub Bud Light Dodgers downed The Bigs 5-0. That improved the Dodgers’ record to 7-4 and moved them into a tie for second with the idle Hitmen.
In the Vines’ victory, Eric Healey gave up just two hits, both infield singles, and struck out seven, while Andrew Kelly scored both runs, one on a solo home run.
Jason Hill (10K) allowed just four baserunners — three hits and a walk — in pitching the shutout for the Dodgers, while Colin Walsh scored a run, drove in another and had two hits for the winners, who took advantage of the 11 walks give up by losing pitcher Nick Pittman.
Hill, by the way, lowered his earned-run average to 0.56 and has struck out 43 batters in 25 innings of work. Those aren’t the best pitching numbers in the league, however. Those belong to the Bulldogs’ Sean Cleary (0.28 ERA), who has struck out 53, also in 25 innings of work. However, Cleary didn’t pitch in either of his team’s losses over the past week.
