Tignish earns overtime win against Georgetown to open P.E.I. junior C final

POWNAL, P.E.I. — Oliver Smallman scored 11 minutes into overtime Saturday as the Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces took the first game of the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League final.

The Aces, who finished second in the five-team league in the regular season, defeated the top-ranked Georgetown Tri County Insulfoam IceDogs 5-4 at the Pownal Sports Centre. Game 2 in the best-of-five series is slated for Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the Credit Union Arena in Tignish.

Dawson Sellick had a goal and an assist in Saturday’s win while Tristan Cahill, James Doyle and Darcy Sherren also scored. Alex Arthur, Lexin Gaudet, Nathan Grigg, Ethan Rix and Thomas Shea each had an assist.

Cam White had a goal and two helpers to pace Georgetown’s attack while Michael Jenkins had a goal and an assist. Cale Guyaux and Keir Warren also scored while assists were credited to Sammy Docherty and Michael Gallant.

Cole Gallant made 36 saves for the win while Brandon Barrett stopped 34 shots in the loss.

Tignish led 2-1 after the first and second periods and was up 4-2 with 13 minutes to go in regulation but Georgetown scored twice in 32 seconds to tie the contest before the midway point of the period.

Each team went 0-for-4 on the power play.

Game 3 is scheduled for Tuesday at 7:50 p.m. in Pownal.
