Seventeen-year-old Alex Newhook is the 15th ranked player on TSN’s pre-season rankings for the 2019 NHL Draft.
The ranking were compiled by TSN’s Bob McKenzie. The ranking is big drop from the second slot where The Hockey News had Newhook pegged in its early rankings last year.
“He’s a skill centre,” McKenzie said. “Not the biggest guy in the world, but he’s expected to be a skilled offensive player down the road.”
Newhook, from St. John’s, had 70 points in 48 total games last season for the British Columbia Hockey League’s Victoria Grizzlies. So far this season, he has four assists in three games.
Newhook is committed to attend Boston College beginning next season. Drafted by the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Newhook opted to spurn major junior hockey – despite the fact Halifax is playing host to the Memorial Cup – in favour of U.S. college hockey.
