The Holy Heart of Mary Highlanders take an 18-0 record in high school play into the School Sports NL provincial 4A boys’ high school basketball championship which opens Thursday.
The Gonzaga Vikings of St. John’s are playing host to the eight-team event which finishes up Sunday with the championship game at 11:30 a.m.
The Highlanders have been the class of high school boys’ basketball in the province so far this season, winning the Hall of Fame Cup, Keith Keating Memorial tournament and Legend City Classic, going unbeaten along the way in all three.
In addition to high school ball, the Highlanders played in the St. John’s men’s Division I league where they went 7-12, and took part in tournaments in Montreal and New Brunswick.
Joining the Highlanders in Division A are the Fatima Royals of St. Bride’s, Corner Brook High Titans and Mobile Monarchs. The host Vikings join Waterford Valley Warriors and Prince of Wales Collegiate Cavaliers, also of St. John’s, in Division B, along with Mount Pearl’s O’Donel Patriots.
