The basketball team hasn’t yet played a game, but when it comes to National Basketball League of Canada, St. John’s already has the Edge.
The NBL Canada expansion team unveiled its name, logo and jersey Monday morning at Macdonald Drive Junior High School in St. John’s, with ‘Edge’ being the moniker of the club which will begin play in about a month's time.
St. John’s' geographical location on the periphery of the North American continent was cited as the primary reason for the choice of nicknames.
The team’s colours will be predominantly navy blue, white and gold, with some grey.

The logo was designed by Jeff Parsons of Chris Batstone's Imaging by Guido.

There is plenty more to do before the start of the season, not the least of which is putting together a 12-man roster, although head coach Jeff Dunlap, who was on hand for Monday's announcement, has already been busy signing players for the team's training camp, which he expects to begin in about two weeks. That will come after the league's annual combine and draft to be held this coming weekend in Windsor, Ont.
The St. John’s Edge will play their first game of a 40-game schedule on Nov. 18 against the Island Storm in Charlottetown, P.E.I. The team’s first home game will be Dec. 1 versus the Niagara River Lions at Mile One Centre.

Ticket pricing and the makeup of ticket packages are still to be revealed, but the team has announced ticket sales will go on sale beginning noon Friday at Mile One Centre.

As of Monday, the team hadn't launched its website, but the Edge was already active on Twitter (@stjohnsedge) and Facebook (facebook.com/stjohnsedge).
