Former Ontario major junior forward Josh Nelson will join the StFX X-Men for the 2020-21 Atlantic University Sport hockey season.
Nelson, a native of Lockport, Illinois, spent four years in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He played three-and-a-half seasons with the London Knights and the latter half of the 2019-20 season with the Barrie Colts. He tallied 92 points (45 goals, 47 assists) in 234 regular-season games.
“We are very happy to be adding Josh to our program,” said X-Men coach Brad Peddle. “He is a very smart, dependable center in both ends of the rink with good speed and hockey sense. Josh brings veteran OHL experience on some very strong London teams, then had a great finish on a good Barrie team. His character and work ethic is highly regarded and he will be a great addition to our team.”
Nelson plans to study business this fall at StFX and joins seven previously announced recruits. Also new to the lineup are defenceman Patrick Kyte (Pembroke, Ont.) and Brendon Clavelle (Kapuskasing, Ont.), along with forwards Ethan Crossman (Sackville, N.B.), Leif Mattson (Stonewall, Man.), Conner Brugen-Cate (Langley, B.C.), Matthew Philip (Ilderton, Ont.) and Dallas Farrell (Roseneath, P.E.I.).
In June, the AUS announced all fall sports schedules have been cancelled. A decision on sports that normally start late in the fall and continue through the winter months – including hockey – will be made in the fall.
