ST. JOHN’S: All aboard the temperature rollercoaster!

A powerful storm tracking to our south is pulling down some very cold air as it pushes off to the east. In the wake of that offshore storm, we can expect a biting NW wind, lingering flurries and mid-winter like conditions. Record low temperatures will combine with that icy wind to serve up a wind chill of -15. The week will end on a milder note with temperatures hovering around the freezing mark on Friday. A push of warmer air ahead of the next system will bring a rain/snow mix on Saturday. The colder side of the line will sit across central Newfoundland with 5 cm of snow expected north of it. Conditions will improve quickly and Sunday afternoon looks fair. I’m watching a system that has the potential to be quite messy; it would make its move on Tuesday.
