ST. JOHN'S: The arctic pipeline opens up

It’s cold now, and it’s going to get colder as the day goes on. A fast-moving pulse of energy is racing across Atlantic Canada today. It’s not expected to serve up much more than a dusting of snow, but it will open up the arctic pipe-line. You’ll know when it has passed; the west to northwest wind will gust as high as 60 km/h in its wake; the feel-like temperatures will range from -10 to -18 this afternoon. Not a fan of the cold? SW COAST: GALE WARNING

  • WIND: NW 35 knots diminishing to W 25 knots in the morning and to W 15 to 20 knots in the afternoon.
  • WAVES: 3 to5 metres subsiding to 2 to 3 metres near noon and to 1 to 2 metres in the evening.

SOUTH COAST: GALE WARNING

  • WIND: NW 35 knots diminishing to NW 25 knots in the morning then backing to W 15 to 20 knots in the afternoon.
  • WAVES: 3 to5 metres subsiding to 2 to 3 metres near noon and to 1 to 2 metres in the evening.

EAST COAST- CAPE ST FRANCIS + SOUTH: GALE AND FREEZING SPRAY WARNING

  • WIND: NW 35 knots diminishing to NW 25 knots in the morning then backing to W 15 to 20 knots in the afternoon.
  • WAVES: 3 to5 metres.
