ST. JOHN’S: Weekend weather wallop

Let me begin with the good news: it’s going to get warmer, but at what cost? Another fall storm tracking eastward from northern Ontario will bring wind and rain as it heads for Labrador. The heaviest rain will fall across western Newfoundland; there, rainfall totals are expected to range from 60 to 90 mm by Sunday afternoon. A strong south wind will build ahead of the storm with gusts in the 60 or 70 km/h range – possibly reaching 100 km/h over SE Newfoundland on Sunday. We can expect a chilly start to the week with cold air funnelling down behind the departing low.
