ST. JOHN'S: Blast of cold ahead of next messy mix

As the storm pulls east of Newfoundland, a strong and icy west wind in the wake of the low will serve up significant wind chill and trigger some onshore snow by the end of the day Tuesday. Temperatures will tumble through the day and wind chill values will settle near -15 C on Wednesday. However, the blast of cold will be short-lived. By Thursday, the leading edge of the next system will reach the region. We can expect 2 to 4 cm of snow followed by some freezing rain then 5 to 10 mm of rain on Friday. Behind the low, a dry, west wind will push the moisture out and bring some January sunshine for the weekend.
