CINDY’S SNAPSHOT: Buckets and buckets of blueberries

Gerald and Marjorie Zwicker had the perfect day at Reimer Gardens last Saturday. Gerald has always loved picking berries of any kind. Now having to depend on a walker for his mobility, this is the only place that he can go that he can get out of the car. In addition, Majorie has her own reasons for her love of blueberries. Having cancer 12 years ago, she was told by the Cancer Clinic in Halifax to eat a lot of blueberries. Ever since, the pair have been doing just that. Together, they picked until their heart’s content and gathered more than 43 pounds of blueberries that day.

Can you say gorgeous? Ronald O’Toole sent this ‘Sunrise at the Castle’ photo he took on Sept. 17 at Logy Bay, N.L. The sun’s rays look like the petals of a flower as it rises out of the Atlantic Ocean. Logy Bay is located near Torbay and is about 10 minutes from downtown St. John’s.

Judy Doyle sent this photo of deer visiting her property on Cape Breton’s Mira River on Monday morning. She said deer are frequent visitors to the area and yesterday she counted as many as seven walking along the river near her home. The deer silhouetted against the morning sun are a beautiful sight.

When hurricane Larry made landfall on the west side of the Avalon on Sept. 11, many things were blown around. Once the storm cleared, Don Simms found this lovely butterfly resting on a sedum in his yard in Mount Pearl, N.L. I wasn't sure what kind of butterfly it was, so I looked it up. Here's what I found. This beauty is a Vanessa Atalanta or red admiral: a medium-sized butterfly with black wings, reddish bands, and white spots.
