There was quite a display in the sky over Black Rock in Kings County, Nova Scotia on Wednesday. Scott West recognized this as a “mackerel” sky”. He wondered why... since his wise grandmother always told me if there was a mackerel sky, to expect rain in 24 hours.
Depending on where you live that expression can vary. My grandmother used to say: “Mackerel sky – never long wet, never long dry.
All week, we’ve watched a parade systems travel off the Atlantic coast. The proximity of these created high altitude atmospheric waves – aka – rows of cirrocumulus or a mackerel sky.
